The Projects

The R.E.H.A.B Projects opened its doors February 8th, 2004 after a good 8 months of blood, sweat, and tears that went into the re-building (those of you who stopped through before Feb know what I'm talkin about!).

We are constantly working on different projects and events that aim to provide something to our culture and the future of our culture, in the youth of our community.

REHAB was built with the four elements of hip hop in mind...We have done our best, and continue to do our best to hold events, carry inventory, and staff people who cater to all four of these elements:  DJs, Emcees, B-boys, and Writers.

Who

R.E.H.A.B. is a vision turned reality; The Projects were developed and hand-built by individuals in different areas of work but same love for the culture (Quickie, Hapa, Carl, and others). With plans to work closely with the community, we hope to build R.E.H.A.B. Projects into a landmark for the generations to come.

SCRATCH DJ ACADEMY- Los Angeles  www.scratch.com

Scratch DJ Academy, the first ever DJ Academy to feature copy written curriculum and hands-on turntable training from celebrity DJ's, opened its first location outside of New York City inside of Los Angeles' very own REHAB.  Scratch DJ Academy – Los Angeles opened its doors to the public on Saturday January 15th, 2005.  The Los Angeles location features the same ground breaking curriculum, lesson plans, instructional LP’s, professional teachers and class offerings made famous at the New York City headquarters.

Classes feature celebrity DJ’s such as Mr. Choc (Power 106 and Rawkus Records recording artist), Hapa (KTLA Morning News, REHAB), Faust and Shortee, and many others.  Students are taught on 11 Stanton Magnetics DJ set ups featuring 22 top of the line turntables.  Classes are part lecture and part lab.

There are six skill levels available for enrollment:  DJ 101 (Beginners), DJ 151 (Intermediate Mixing) and DJ 202 (Intermediate Scratching) and a new beat making program (BM101) to name a few.  A limited number of spots are available. Private one-on-one lessons with celebrity DJ's are also available during the week and weekend.

"Scratch's goal is to lower the barrier to entry for those interested in this pop culture phenomenon and art form,” noted Rob Principe, President & CEO, Scratch DJ Academy. “We are proud to be opening a location within Rehab Records which has demonstrated its commitment to the DJ community in California and beyond.”

“We plan to educate beginners and professional DJ’s through a curriculum that treats the turntable as an instrument and the DJ as a musician, allowing students of all ages and backgrounds to bring their own creativity to the art form,” added Hapa, Academy Director for the Los Angeles location.

About Scratch
In early 2002, Rob Principe, the late Jam Master Jay from Run DMC (Jason Mizell) and Reg E. Gaines (author, Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk) created the Scratch DJ Academy® to educate amateur DJ's and enthusiasts by providing them with the necessary equipment and instruction to learn this popular art form.  For more information, log on to www.scratch.com or 310-312-6599.

  • HAPA
  • Having started his career off in the world of advertising, HAPA now spends his days as a full time slave of REHAB Inc. filling in the blanks, whatever those may be.  As one of the owners of the company, the Executive Director of Scratch LA, one of the head professors at the Academy, one is almost certain to find HAPA running around REHAB doing something at any hour of the day or night!

Having fell in love with DJing back in 1997, HAPA has found a way to keep that love going by rocking shows all over the world as both a DJ and a TV Host.  With his recent shows, "X-Bytes" and "The Bridge", HAPA has found a way to bring his influence and his music to the masses- but above all else, the thing that HAPA is most concerned with is the education and preservation of the hip hop culture...

“Hip Hop is more than just music…it’s a lifestyle…its culture…and right now…its what everyone wants to be.  But its more than just a trend.  Hip hop isn’t about an iced out chain…people need to understand the culture and learn about where its been and where its going…”

  • QUICKIE
  • As a part of the of the DJ community for over a decade, Quickie continues to supply the esteemed Hollywood skyline with life, night after night. Creating his stamp as a premier club DJ, Quickie’s ability to survive in a saturated industry is a result of his commitment to the hip-hop culture.
“People tend to view DJs as a juke box, but a serious DJ will bring emotions and energy out of a crowd”

    Back in the day…
Brian Wong arose from private school in northern California where he ceased to exist. Outcast by the normality of a private high school led him to discover a passion for music. He found his niche with Djs and B-Boys he met in the downtown urban hip-hop scene, mixing tapes on his dual-cassette home stereo. While Prom Kings picked up they’re Queens in brand new Acuras, Brian traded transportation for turntables. At the age of 16, he operated his own mobile DJ business out of San Jose, CA; known for his fast switching skills and creative mixing, he was deemed the name Quickie.

In 1998, he moved to Los Angeles, grinding out 5 shows a week in any local club he could find. Consistent hard work led Quickie to build a humble reputation within the Southern California club scene obtaining performances at Hollywood’s prestigious White Lotus, The Highlands, and gaining a resident DJ slot at Dublin’s on the world famous Sunset Strip as well as residencies throughout Hollywood Clubs.

    Not a kid any more…
Quickie’s drive to excel in the music industry led him to create the largest on-line record store named DJCITY.COM, INC. which currently services over 15,000 DJ’s world-wide. His DJ mix-tapes have graced such corporate clientele as Puma and Abercrombie and Fitch while his  live performance skills have led him to headline nation-wide in San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas, Seattle, Vancouver, Texas, Kansas, and New York. Quickie’s ability to ‘move’ a crowd has enabled him to cater to such musical celebrities as DMX, Ja-Rule, Brandy and numerous others.
Quickie’s current projects include collaborating with LA radio station DJ, Power106’s DJ Coke-E, to formulate a record pool to independently market music for record labels, servicing 30 top DJs in the greater Los Angeles area; Entertainment Director for Climax Entertainment; and the creation of REHAB PROJECTS, the newest venture, a West LA 3,000 sq. ft. urban lifestyle shop to host live DJ, MC, and B-Boy battles while specializing in hip-hop music, accessories, and clothing.

Unlike most DJs, Quickie is a “cross-over DJ”, able to skillfully blend music from all genres, rocking crowds of any age and background. His unique style and exciting mixing techniques have gained him the reputation of Quickie.

  • XCLASS
  • Its safe to say that REHAB. would physically not exist without any of the partners…however, Xclass’ role in the company may be one of the toughest by far.  Looked to as the “father-figure”, Xclass is the glue that holds the company together.
